Weight Lifting Myths You Should Know
Weightlifting training is so popular among gym-goers. People usually do it to lose weight, shape their muscles, and improve bone health. But apparently, there are a lot of myths about this workout. Here are some of them!
“Light weight training with lots of reps is better than heavy weight training with few reps.”
The fact is quite the opposite. Muscle building will occur if you exercise by maximizing your body's abilities. By lifting heavier weights, your muscles will also be more trained and stronger.
“Weight training will grow women's muscles.”
This statement is not entirely true. When you start to exercise, your muscles will retain water in your body which makes you feel more muscular (temporary). You need 3 to 6 months to see real results. If you’re worried about big muscles that you’ll get later, you should know that muscles are formed in a woman's body will not be as big as what men usually get, because in general, a woman's body does not have enough testosterone to make her body too muscular like a bodybuilder.
“Weight training can shrink certain body areas.”
It is often found that when a person thinks their arm and belly start to grow bigger, they will work out only to get rid of that area and ignore other areas of the body. In fact, when you want to lose fat in some areas of your body, it's always good for you to do the whole body exercise. You can focus more on that area but still work on other body areas so that you don't just get a change in the area you want to reduce, but change as a whole.
“When you stop working out, your muscles will turn into fat.”
You know what, this is not going to happen! When someone stopped their weight training routine, it will only reduce the muscles mass, not turn it into fat. If your body fat appears again, that’s actually new body fat because you don’t train as much as before anymore.
