When you have the courage to take the next step by coming to the gym, there will be a number of things that can make things feel uneasy and confusing. You have no idea where to start. 1. Define your reasons and goals

First thing first, know what is your goal and why do you need to hit the gym? Ask yourself some questions like: Why do you need to put fitness into your daily schedule? How big does fitness affect your life now and later? What are the fitness goals that you want to achieve? Will you always be consistent, now and later?


After defining your reasons and goals, it will be easier for you to start hitting the gym and be consistent.


2. Start small and slowly

You don’t need to force yourself immediately by doing intense workout 5 days a week. That will be so hard to do and it could be a disaster for you. You can always start small, slowly, and gradually. You are recommended by experts to start working out 1-3 days a week, with at least 30 minutes session a day. Once you get used to it, you can start to add 30 minutes more a day. In addition, you should also start doing workout that you like. By liking what you do, you can feel more enjoy and it's easier to be consistent.


3. Make it a habit

Start working out at the gym? Good! But, that’s not enough. You won’t get your best results if you don’t turn it into a routine. So, if you already workout at least 2-3 times a week, then start making it into your new habit. Making workout into a habit needs a long process, but once you do it, you will continue to put workout into your daily activities. Once it becomes your habit, you will feel bad if you have to skip the gym. Consistency is the key to achieve your fitness goals.


4. Warming up and cooling down

Warming up before working out is a must. Warm up can prepare your body for more intense movements, and to minimize the risk of injury from exercise. Apart from warming up, cooling is also a must to cool the muscles that have been training hard. So, take time to do these two things during your exercise. On the other hand, you also need to know when to stop and rest. Do not get too excited so that you ignore the breaks between your exercises. Do not forget to also maintain fluid and nutrient levels in your body, your hard work will give you maximum results in the future.


5. Don’t compare your fitness journey with others

In your early fitness journey, making some mistakes is normal. Don’t blame yourself and be judgemental to yourself when you make mistakes. The key is to keep trying and training, you will be better each day. You also need to know that your workout won’t give you instant results, you need time and process. Never compare your fitness journey with others because everyone has different pace and struggles.


6. Surround yourself with supportive people

If you want to be an active person, one of the things you also need to think about is having active and supportive people around you. By having family, friends, and colleagues who exercise, your mindset about fitness itself will get better and stronger. You can occasionally hang up or workout with them. What you do outside the gym will affect your life inside the gym. Including your friendship circle, family, lifestyle, sleep patterns, nutritional intake, and stress levels, will affect your ngegym results.
