How to Stay Hydrated When Exercising During Fasting
If you’re fasting, it can be tricky to workout during Ramadan. The thought that usually comes to mind is: How to exercise without feeling dehydrated? This is also one of the reasons why you finally decided to not working out and wait until Ramadan is over. In fact, there are so many things that you can do to exercise without feeling dehydrated. Here’s how to do it!
1. Choose Water-Rich Foods and Drinks, Always!
In suhoor and iftar, you’re advised to eat and drink water-rich foods and drinks. Also, warm water is better than the cold one because it will be absorbed faster by your body. You’re also advised to eat soup as often as you can, because as a primarily liquid food, it can be one of the best foods that will keep you hydrated.
Other than that, fruits and vegetables like watermelon, tomato, cucumber, grapes, etc., are also recommended to be eaten in suhoor and iftar. These water-rich foods can help you to avoid feeling thirsty during fasting.
2. Avoid Adding Too Much Salt, Herbs, and Spices to Your Foods
We all can agree that salty foods are always tempting. Unfortunately, it can be bad for your body and makes you more thirsty during fasting. So, it’s recommended for you to not add too much salt to your foods. The less the better.
3. Cut Down Caffeine and Nicotine
Caffeinated drinks may have a mild diuretic effect, diuretic means that they may cause the need to urinate. That’s why it can make you thirsty. You’re advised to cut down your caffeine consumption during Ramadan. It includes energy drinks, softdrink, tea, and coffee. You’re also advised to avoid smoking because it can cause dry lips and make you thirsty.
4. Avoid Sun Exposure and Heavy Physical Activity During The Day
Sun exposure and high temperatures will make you need more water. While you can’t drink during fasting, it may lead to dehydration.
The best time to exercise during Ramadan is after iftar time. After drinking and eating in iftar, your body is ready and you already have the energy to do heavier activity.
