5 Food That Can Fight Fat and Cholesterol!

October 1, 2014

Eid al-Adha is another excuse to be merry and enjoy delicious meaty dishes, from creamy curries to savory kebabs! However, be careful not to go overboard with all the food or you will frown the next day, because of the unwanted spare tire and sky-high cholesterol number!

Avoiding red meat and coconut milk is nearly impossible, so we have compiled some food that will help you fight the fat and cholesterol in your blood, so you can enjoy the feast of Eid al-Adha. Here they are:

#1 LEAFY GREENS

Go green spirit seems to be everywhere these days, and leafy greens are proven to be good for your health. Being an ultimate source of fiber and antioxidants, leafy greens help you fight fat in the blood that causes heart disease. Add some extra salad on the side of your meaty dishes.

#2 POMEGRANATE

This beautiful-looking fruit is not only delicious, but is also proven to help unclog your arteries by burning fat and increasing blood flow with its polyphenols. Polyphenols also help arteries expand and contract to maintain blood flow and keep them from hardening, which is the leading cause of heartattacks. Enjoy pomegranates as a refreshing alternative to sweet desserts.

#3 BEANS & LEGUMES

Besides being delicious additions to your curry, beans or legumes are the best source of fiber of any foods. They help to stabilize blood sugar while keeping you regular. They are also high in potassium, a critical mineral that reduces dehydration and the risk of high blood pressure and stroke.

#4 GARLIC & ONIONS

Garlic and onions contain phytochemicals that break down fatty deposits in the body, while also breaking down cholesterol; killing viruses, bacteria, and fungi; and protecting against heart disease. With a little help from garlic and onions, you can burn fat while warding off illness. Go mad for garlic!

#5 TURMERIC

The popular spice is one of the main ingredients in a curry recipe, and happens to be one of the highest known sources of beta-carotene, the antioxidant that helps protect the liver from free radical damage. Turmeric also helps strengthen your liver while helping your body metabolize fats by decreasing the fat storage rate in liver cells. Add a teaspoon –or more- of turmeric into your next curry dish to help your body fight fat.
