Hugging is Important and Good for Your Health!

April 11, 2014

Expressing your love towards your loved ones does not have to be on Valentine’s Day, you’ve got to do it everyday! Did you know that the lack of being caressed and loved can cause death? Research and studies suggest that besides good for your health, caressing and hugging are also good for your relationship (obviously!). So…have you hugged your partner, friends, family, and even your pets?

A research conducted based on 4.000 couples in the USA found that couples who state that they are “very happy in their relationships with their partners” hug at least four times a day.

Another study shows a direct correlation between physical touch and human health. Babies who do not receive enough affection such as those in foster houses are more prone to diseases, both mentally and physically, and many of them even died due to the diseases. Children who grow up without enough affection can develop into aggressive and anti-social adults. Older people who do not get enough love and attention will also feel lonely and sad, that it leads to senility. How come? It is all simply because we are not created to live on our own without affection. Affection stimulates the production of oxytocin hormone which gives us the feelings of happiness and joy. When we feel happy, our immune system level increases. Besides that, when our body produces oxytocin, we will have the urge to be affectionate and be loved, therefore the activity of giving affection through physical touches between couple will help them release oxytocin hormone at the same time while forming a bond between them. This is why, hugging and caressing have an enormous impact on our health as well as our relationship.

Do you hug your partner often? This question is probably unnecessary for new couple who just start dating, but for those who have been married for quite some time, spending the entire day without hugging or interacting much with each other has probably become a normal thing. This can lead to a life without affection or sparks which will eventually make the relationship seems dull and boring. Watch out!

So what about YOUR relationship? Do you still show affection towards each other?

We know this is not Valentine’s Day –or month- but showing affection is not a bad thing! Hug your partner at least four times a week and give at least one compliment a day. Do activities that will bond you two closer, such as exercising together. Do it and see how it changes your relationship, and your health! dampaknya pada hubunganmu dengan pasangan, termasuk kesehatan Anda berdua.
