Fasting, Winning Strategy to Boost Metabolism

Time moves so quickly, as we have entered the sixth month in 2015, Ramadan is just twenty days away. Are you ready yet?

 

Many of us agree that the first week of fasting were the hardest. By 12pm, we were already feeling the thirst. Our throat literally begged for water. Don’t give up! No matter how hard the obstacles, remember that fasting is not only obligatory for adult Muslims, but it’s also effective to improve metabolism.

 

By completing the thirty days of fasting, we exercise our body discipline to eat and drink in moderation. For those who develop a dependency on cigarette, fasting forces a smoker to cut down the amount of the cigarettes up to 80%.

 

According to one study, fasting is highly recommended for those with slow metabolism. During fasting, there is a resting time right after normal digestion time, which is 6 to 8 hours. When this process takes place, there is an increase in High Density Lipoprotein (HDL) and Apolipoprotein alfa1 levels as well as a decrease in Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), which bring positive impact on the heart.  Healthy heart means healthy metabolism! When you fast, you give the digestive tract time to completely rest. As the result, the body’s metabolism speeding up and burn calories more effectively.

 

Did you know that animals are fasting too when they are sick? Their primal instinct send a signal to stop eating for a while to reduce the stress on their internal system, therefore their immune system will be able to respond to the infection better. Well, the same thing also occurs to human body. By fasting, our immune system switches its status from active state into repair mode. This is resulting to a vigorous repair process of the damage that caused by free radicals and the prevention of cancer cells.
